Unlike other castles of ancient times, the Sleeping Beauty of Mirna is welcoming its visitors with a positive atmosphereand uplifting spirit.

The corner stone of her legacy is laid by countess Hemma von Gurk when she developed a visionary value system based on fairness and generosity.

Visionary

Saint Hemma von Gurk was a true pioneer in humanitarian work and fair value systems. She was the countess of the Mirna region when the Castle was established and one of the most empowered woman of her time.

As the founder of several monasteries and churches

(the education and healing centers of her time) Hemma is known to have generously shared her wealth with the people. It is said that she paid workers according to their own estimation of the value for their work based on honesty, trust, transparency and fairness.

Honoring her kindness and humanitarian vision, the 11th century countess was canonized by pope Pius in 1938.

Visionary theatre director and historian Marko Marin was one of his kind. The passionate artist spent 50 years of his lifetime to restore the beautiful castle from ruins to its original and present beauty.

After his passing at 85 the castle went into private ownership - and is currently on the market.

Marko Marin set the tone for Mirna Castle to be established as a place for the study, performance and celebration of the arts, and thus opening the doors for the "MIRNA Foundation" to continue the legacy

of the founders and previous steward.

Be part of writing history and help awaken

the Sleeping Beauty of the iconic Mirna castle.
